Striking With Pride: United at the Coalface

Between London Pride 1984 and 1985, an unlikely alliance was forged between the gay men and lesbians of London, and the striking miners of South Wales. Everyone loves a good love story: and this is one of the most unexpected and uplifting love stories ever: not between two people, but between two communities who - seemingly worlds apart - found common cause and compassion for each other in the face of immense challenges, and changed the course of history for queer people in the UK.

Our feature documentary explores this remarkable tale, made famous by the film Pride ten years ago. Everyone loved the film, but the real story behind the script is much richer and more powerful than you could ever imagine. And the legacy of these events are still felt to this day, forty years on since the 1984/1985 Miners’ Strike. But this won’t be like any other documentary about the Miners’ Strike you’ll watch this year…

Among other unique stylistic elements, iconic drag queen Tayce narrates the film, telling this powerful fable to a group of kids in a playful and poignant storytime session, which will bring fresh meaning and relevance to the story through the perspective of this new generation.

"The First Grand Adventure!" "The First Grand Adventure!"

"The First Grand Adventure!"

The film tells the complete story of the historic flight that made Amelia Earhart the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air. From its planning in Boston to its departure from Trepassey, Newfoundland, the film traces the selection of Earhart—an unknown social worker from Boston—for this daring journey. The seaplane "Friendship" ultimately landed off the coast of the quiet seaside town of Burry Port, South Wales, forever etching the town into the annals of aviation history. Using restored and colourised archival footage, the film showcases how this groundbreaking achievement turned Earhart into a global icon while capturing the astonishment and pride felt by the people of Burry Port. Through first-hand accounts from local residents, we see how the town, for a fleeting moment, became the centre of the world, as Earhart’s success became their own, forever linking Burry Port to her legacy as the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air.

Adra Adra

Adra

Llanberis is the diamond at the heart of the rugged North Wales scenery. A village hunkered down below Yr Wyddfa and Elidir Fawr, it's the epicentre of adventurous climbing in the UK.

This small village and its surroundings have shaped the lives of many, and a climbing culture as historic and iconic as to rival Chamonix or Yosemite has grown from the mountains, quarries, and sea cliffs that harbour some of the best traditional rock climbing in the world.

Local climbers Zoe Wood and Lewis Perrin Williams take us on a nostalgic journey, exploring how this place has impacted the lives of those who have lived, worked, and played in this beautiful corner of Cymru over the last century. Featuring interviews and archives from some of the most prolific and colourful characters of UK climbing, Adra gently gifts us a sense of home, community, and belonging, and how the mountains of Cymru have conjured up the spirit of ‘hiraeth.’

In the words of John Redhead, "I think North Wales is the home of the spirit of climbing, without a doubt…"
