Gabriel's Daughter, The Life and Legacy of Clara Brown

Gabriel’s Daughter, The Life and Legacy of Clara Brown is a historic documentary that tells the true story of an African American pioneer through the lens of a world-premiere American opera. Freed from enslavement, Clara sought to find her only surviving daughter Eliza Jane, who was sold away from her at a slave auction. As a laundress and cook, Clara walked along with a wagon-train from Kentucky to the gold mines of Colorado where she established a successful laundry business and invested in real estate, gaining her great wealth and induction into the esteemed Colorado Pioneer Society. Near the end of her life, Clara was miraculously reunited with her daughter. An award-winning ensemble retells Clara’s story, as this film journeys from a New Jersey recording studio, with opera highlight performances, to historic Colorado locations. The storytelling is enhanced with candid interviews from the cast who, in examining Clara’s life, grapple with past and present societal interconnections.

For Tomorrow For Tomorrow

For Tomorrow

Filmed with local crews around the world from the Andes to Sierra Leone, and with rare access to the United Nations Development Programme, For Tomorrow (narrated by Daisy Ridley) is the story of grassroots innovators dedicated to fighting some of today’s most pressing sustainability issues. Through actions, big and small, everyday changemakers are tackling local problems and inspiring their communities with ingenuity, resilience and vision. Whether it’s a solar-powered car built from electronic waste, or soaps and detergents made from food scraps by someone with no chemistry background, grassroots solutions are setting the planet on a more sustainable path. For a real breakthrough, governments and the private sector must recognize these unlikely innovators and celebrate them just as do those from Silicon Valley. All Politics is Local All Politics is Local

All Politics is Local

In Ireland, “If you’re hungry enough, you’ll dig up the tar on the road with your teeth to get a vote.” It’s not only the other parties who are a threat to you; it’s your running mate. Indeed, it is the internal rivalry that can be the most “bitter and acrimonious”, as well as the “more entertaining.” Based upon three decades of ethnographic research, "All Politics is Local" is the story of a rural Irish election campaign that becomes as suspenseful as it is surprising; a memorable drama with a vivid cast of characters – leading to an unexpectedly poignant conclusion.
