Stone. Filmed in Carbondale, Illinois, August and September, 2020. Painting by Saribenne Evesong (1931-2009). Text of poem:

Only spirits, if any, stay forever,
the corporeal always pivot away.

A raucous goodbye, or a misunderstanding,
"Good luck, old friend!" or "Good riddance, old fool!"

I pedal faster, to a hum on a breeze,
a flutter along a long-darkened hallway.

I name the ghosts, as if I can still see them,
a crush ... a friend ... an inspiration.

You called me silly, poked at my gloom,
said "There's no such thing as being alone!"

And even today, I want to believe you,
but I fail every test, again and again.

Text of the poem:

Legacy

Each summer, your mother’s hands
transformed heaped bowls of ripe fruit
into glistening fillings.
Her deft persuasion of dough into pastry
through the white silted air
Rhubarb, blueberry, peach, apple --
desserts for a year’s worth of holidays.

I tried to make pie
the way I tried to be a wife:
four pyrex pie plates, a battle
to bind flour, fat and water
into elusive tenderness.

You gave me a yearning
for homemade pie
that lingered longer than love,
then left with the pie plates

and what you learnt --
congee breakfasts,
the intricate textures of dim sum,
how to eat shark's fin
with a spoonful of vinegar,
never to forgo the good luck
of red bean soup, and always
to rest your chopsticks
parallel across the bowl
at a meal's end.

imaginary world to keep out the real one. However, through his senses, the outside keeps creeping in. The things he hears and feels in the real-world weave into his imaginary experience, hinting at what he has done. He can now choose to keep
ignoring reality and with it the ones that need him the most, or he can come back into the real-world and live with his guilt. John will never be able to live a normal life again, but for his family he at least must try to.

“I’m scared and feel wrapped in the dark. I’m vulnerable.”

Exploring the more narrative soul of fashion film while staying true to the genre’s strong focus on aesthetics, Alex tells us of a woman reliving and working through a trauma. Inspired by EMDR therapy, the film looks at abandonment during childhood as something that is likely to accompany us into adulthood. Through an experimental, movement-led approach, Alex takes us on a journey into the human psyche.

From the music composition and fashion design to the photography and choice of location, everything about Alex is thought up to recreate a dreamlike scenario. Shot in a historical villa in the Lombard region of Italy, the film employs dance as a release tool to work through one’s traumas. Lead character and dancer Silvia Bonavigo thus challenges her fears by interacting with the space around her through a series of choreographed movements. A collaboration with Italian label Kappe by Federica Bonifaci, the iconic capes of the mono product brand were selected to emphasise and complement the wearer’s gestures.

Breaking away from pre-established video genres, Alex finds itself at a crossroad between fashion film, short film and dance video. The film is a personal project and the director’s first narrative work. Alex has been selected by more than 25 international festivals, with 10 nominations and 5 wins including Best Actress at A Shaded View on Fashion Film, Best International Fashion Film at Buenos Aires Fashion Film Festival and Best Performance at Canadian Fashion Film Festival.

Friends and family have joined filmmakers Paul London and Tracey Moberly to represent their LOCKDOWN LOVE viewed through the lenses of their smartphones. From rollerblading through the empty sanitized streets of Krasnoyarsk, in Eastern Siberia; the observation of boredom on a masseuse's face in Bali, Indonesia; nature vocalizing itself through a typical thunderstorm in Jinja, Uganda; empty trains, planes and automobiles ... to the love of parents, carers and children - old and young from across the globe. Red weaves a theme throughout the imagery as members from 40 countries depict their account of LOCKDOWN LOVE … guided by a faceless red-winged angel.

Time

Robin is a recluse who prefers nature and solitude to the comforts and companionship of civilization. Her lifestyle reflects her resourcefulness: stolen food, a shelter crafted from salvaged materials, decorated with found treasures. One winter day, a logging operation launches nearby, and the forest that was her salvation is threatened by the encroachment of civilization. To avoid discovery, Robin must flee home with only the bare essentials, trading her painstakingly earned contentment for the uncertainty of displacement.

Uprooted centers on one individual who has chosen to opt out of society. Through focus upon the small details of her life, we find a character whose challenges reflect larger societal issues. Robin’s journey speaks to the near impossibility of escaping societal expectation, and the unseen casualties of careless modern civilization.
