(The opening quote is Shylock’s from ‘The Merchant of Venice’.) This poem recalls young Anne Hathaway as it recalls lost wives - Shylock's Leah and his daughter Jessica - as a way of thinking about poems lost and lives left unrecorded: disappearing poetic moments in all our lives we have given away to others.Production techniques include animating flat puppets using an antique bottle as a lens and shadow play of hands and objects set into animated textures created under the camera with oil paints.
ILLUSTRATED POEMStriking With Pride: United at the Coalface
Between London Pride 1984 and 1985, an unlikely alliance was forged between the gay men and lesbians of London, and the striking miners of South Wales. Everyone loves a good love story: and this is one of the most unexpected and uplifting love stories ever: not between two people, but between two communities who - seemingly worlds apart - found common cause and compassion for each other in the face of immense challenges, and changed the course of history for queer people in the UK. Our feature documentary explores this remarkable tale, made famous by the film Pride ten years ago. Everyone loved the film, but the real story behind the script is much richer and more powerful than you could ever imagine. And the legacy of these events are still felt to this day, forty years on since the 1984/1985 Miners’ Strike. But this won’t be like any other documentary about the Miners’ Strike you’ll watch this year… Among other unique stylistic elements, iconic drag queen Tayce narrates the film, telling this powerful fable to a group of kids in a playful and poignant storytime session, which will bring fresh meaning and relevance to the story through the perspective of this new generation.

Morphes is an experimental film composed of a series of disjointed memories from my childhood in my grandparents house. The film follows the relationship between a young boy and an old man, as they explore the house that surrounds them. Throughout the film, we are uncertain of the precise relationship of the two characters - believing that they are either the same (with the boy representing the man's childhood self), or a young boy and his grandfather. As the film develops, we realise that the house is slowly coming to life, with the paintings surrounding the characters becoming animated, and characters from their lives appearing and disappearing from dark corners. It is a film which is driven by rhythm, sound and music, more so than a fixed narrative.
